Strainer Danger

• Watch the Strainer Danger segment in the River Safety section of the Be River Safe video.

• Work in groups and discuss:

  • what to do if you are in a river and being swept toward a strainer

  • why people do not recognise the dangers strainers present to swimmers, kayakers and other river users

  • why we don’t recognise the force of the water in the river

  • what safety precautions the makers of the Be River Safe video took when they filmed this DVD segment and why they needed to be so safety conscious.
